China-Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative Financial Summit takes off Nov 23-24

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 -- The China-Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative Financial Summit (CCI-FS) will be held in Chongqing and Singapore parallelly from Nov 23 to 24, the Information Office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government announced recently.

According to a statement, CCI-FS this year will be held under the theme: Deepening China-ASEAN Financial Cooperation, Creating a New Paradigm of Interconnectivity.

As a key event under the third intergovernmental cooperation project between China and Singapore, CCI-FS has been successfully held for three times.

In November 2015, the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI) was officially launched with financial services as one of its four priority areas.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, shipping and air transportation have been hampered, however, the cargo volume along China-Europe Railway Express has instead increased despite the disruptions, a vital support to Europe in fighting COVID-19 and maintaining the stability of global supply chain.

Under the CCI framework, Chongqing International Logistics Hub, where the starting terminal of China-Europe Railway Express, i.e. Chongqing Tuanjiecun Railway is located, issued bonds worth US$500 million in Singapore with lower cost than that in the domestic market. (US$1 = RM4.187)

The issuance has raised funds for infrastructure construction in the hub, so that financial cooperation plays its role to create a better port terminal.

The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) serves as a major international logistics channel between China and Southeast Asian countries.

By means of railway, sea and road, goods from western China can travel southward and access the world market through coastal and border ports such as Guangxi and Yunnan, with shorter time compared with the traditional route from eastern China.

Meanwhile, the CCI cross-border financial services are empowering the ILSTC. A financial service platform jointly built by China and Singapore for the corridor provides convenient and low-cost financial services for logistics, trade and manufacturing enterprises along the route, and also empowers its operation companies.

BANDAI NAMCO Group announces ‘GUNDAM OPEN INNOVATION’ application period extension

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 -- BANDAI NAMCO Group has begun a GUNDAM-powered, sustainability project, ‘GUNDAM UNIVERSAL CENTURY DEVELOPMENT ACTION (GUDA)’, and brought together fans worldwide along with many external partners to plan and take upon a variety of initiatives for the children of the future.

As part of the initiative, ‘GUNDAM OPEN INNOVATION’ was established in an effort to gather new ideas and technologies that can face the many issues found within society such as population and global environmental problems.

To further promote the initiative, a decision has been made to extend the application period for one additional month, according to a statement.

‘GUNDAM OPEN INNOVATION’ is a programme to create future dreams and hopes by revisiting the similarities between the real world and the fictional era of GUNDAM, the ‘Universal Century’, and merging ‘GUNDAM’ with ‘future technologies’ to face the social issues that exist in both worlds.

An initial invitation for application was announced back in July this year, with the first-phase deadline set on Aug 15, and a second-phase application deadline set on Sept 15.

An overwhelming amount of applications was received, with many requests for an extended deadline. Under the concept of receiving as many ideas as possible, a third-phase deadline has been decided and set for Oct 15, with hope of seeing more ideas to come.

An interview video is now available to the public, featuring BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Corporate Managing Director and CGO, Koji Fujiwara, who is hosting ‘GUNDAM OPEN INNOVATION’ and the directors behind the ‘moving GUNDAM’ that was built last year in Yokohama.

The interview also brings up what the future of GUNDAM holds and how BANDAI NAMCO pushed out the GUNDAM brand in the form of products and services.

HONG KONG, Sept 9 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) officially launched a West Kowloon neighbourhood programme, after featuring popular promotions “Old Town Central” and “Sham Shui Po – Every Bit Local” in the “Hong Kong Neighbourhoods” campaign. The latest programme highlights the West Kowloon neighbourhood’s rich heritage and vibrant street life in Yau Ma Tei and Jordan along with its two new world-class museums – M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) – which will open in the end of the year and next and become landmarks in art and cultural tourism. As art is inseparable from our life, the programme builds a bridge between the local life of the bustling communities, home to many historical architectures and traditional craftsmanship, and the artistic lure of the WKCD.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210909005430/en/

HKTB Executive Director Mr Dane Cheng said: “Experiential tourism is a rising and inspiring trend, particularly where it blends arts and culture with authentic local life. The HKTB has chosen to launch this large-scale programme before borders reopen because we want residents to savour the experience first and discover hidden gems in their community, rekindling their enthusiasm and appreciation and creating a harmonious art-life aura in the West Kowloon neighbourhood. We hope Hong Kong people will then share their experiences with friends and relatives outside Hong Kong. Besides, visitors around the world are eager to travel as soon as travel restrictions are eased, and we will be able to capitalise on the opportunities if we are well prepared in advance. We are also encouraging tour operators to create in-depth tours for Hong Kong residents to help them plan ahead for the return of international visitors.

“The HKTB believes the West Kowloon neighbourhood programme will not only drive domestic tourism and stimulate consumption, but also spread a positive message and showcase Hong Kong’s new art and cultural travel opportunities to the world and fire up interest in the district among visitors, who are keen to return as soon as borders reopen.”

Five walking routes to uncover a rich heritage

Starting from the beautiful shoreline at the WKCD, the programme extends to Yau Ma Tei and Pitt Street, and spans along Nathan Road to reach streets and paths around Austin Road, Jordan.

Tokyo tops 500 list of world’s most innovative cities - 2thinknow

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 -- Tokyo topped the 500 list of world's most innovative cities published for the 14th year by data analysts 2thinknow this week.

According to a statement, Tokyo's win was attributed to strong urban technology application, digital capability, and social performance.

Meanwhie, Singapore (5) stayed steady, rising two places globally from its five-year pre-Covid average. The analysts predicted that like Tokyo, Singapore had the digital and economic potential to one day ‘win the city rankings’.

Home to MIT, United States city Boston placed second globally, to defeat previous winner New York. Next place was a rising Sydney, home to a booming start-up industry. Silicon Valley fell to twelfth, its lowest result in over a decade.

In addition, 20 of the top 100 cities were in the Asia region, displacing Europe's normal hold on the top 100. Constant lockdowns had a “greater impact there damaging to mid-size enterprises”, according to the analysts.

For the first time, more than half (54 per cent) of top 100 cities were in the United States. This included often over-looked cities like Little Rock (82) and Omaha (86), in what was described as a 'surprise result' by the data analysts.

Across the full 500 cities, Asian cities rose an average of 34 places for the first time, with Ho Chi Minh City (234) rising 85 places.

The 162 indicators were weighted to address digital transformation, economic recovery, start-ups, technology, smart cities, science, engineering, creativity, mobility and other key civic areas. Data included latest Covid-19 city policies.

2thinknow, the publisher and creator of the city ranking is a data analysts established in Melbourne in 2006 from research started in Vienna in 2005.
