JAPAN’S KAKAKU.COM INITIATES LARGEST RESTAURANT RESERVATION FOR OVERSEAS VISITORS

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- Tabelog, one of Japan’s largest restaurant search and reservation sites operated by Kakaku.com Inc, has launched an online reservation service for visitors to Japan.

In a statement, Japanese internet company Kakaku.com said with reservations available at over 35,000 restaurants, it is the largest service of its kind in Japan, which supports English, both Simplified and Traditional Chinese as well as Korean.

Meanwhile, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization, the number of visitors to Japan is expected to exceed three million in May, up 60 per cent from the previous year.

Head of Tabelog, Taku Kounoike said Japan is currently the destination of choice for travellers worldwide, and many of them want to experience the country’s food culture.

“However, there is still a shortage of restaurants equipped to communicate with and take reservations from overseas visitors leading to a situation where only a handful of well-known restaurants are attracting visitors to Japan.

“As a Japanese gourmet media, we want to support travellers in experiencing the deeper charm of Japan, by showcasing a wide range of excellent restaurants across the country, and by providing a service that enables users to make online reservations,” said Taku.

Tabelog’s service features enable users to search for Japanese restaurants by specifying a location, cuisine, budget, and the desired date and time of reservation; select a restaurant based on detailed informations such as menu, photos, and reviews posted by Japanese users; and check reservation availability using the calendar function and make online reservations directly.

Online reservations are currently only available for set menus and require credit card registration. In addition, with the usage fee of 440 Japanese yen (including tax) per person per reservation. (100 Japanese yen = RM2.93)

As of March, Tabelog has become one of Japan’s largest restaurant search and reservation services, with approximately 93.5 million monthly users.

DALLAS, June 21 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Mary Kay Inc., a global leader in skin care innovation, recently revealed the results of two breakthrough research studies: first, an antioxidant treatment that can diminish the visible effects of pollution and aging on human skin; and second, a focus on the applications of computational tools to accurately predict the safety and potential reactions of human skin to various cosmetic ingredients. These findings were shared by Mary Kay scientists at the 2024 Society of Investigative Dermatology (SID) meeting in Dallas, Texas. The company was a silver-level sponsor of the event.

“Mary Kay scientists are at the forefront of skin care research, and we’re pleased to share our latest findings with the broader scientific community,” said Dr. Lucy Gildea, Chief Innovation Officer, Product & Science at Mary Kay. The ongoing partnership with the Society of Investigative Dermatology underscores Mary Kay’s dedication to advancing skincare science. By maintaining collaborative efforts, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to making significant breakthroughs in the field of dermatology, ultimately providing consumers with safer and more effective skincare solutions.

“Mary Kay's enduring commitment to research and development aligns perfectly with our goals at the Society for Investigative Dermatology," said Dr. Rebecca Minnillo, Chief Program, Communications and Development Officer at SID. "Our sustained partnership enables us to explore new frontiers in dermatological science, bringing us closer to breakthroughs that can transform skin care and treatment options.”

Mary Kay's research into the effects of air pollution on skin, conducted through multiple academic collaborations since 2016, revealed that an antioxidant blend of resveratrol, niacinamide, and oligopeptide-1 protects natural skin surface lipids from oxidative damage caused by particulate matter (PM) and UV radiation, both alone and combined. Additionally, this blend has been found to prevent free radical formation induced by blue light, demonstrating its potential in mitigating the detrimental effects of multiple environmental stressors on the skin.

During the festivities, ZJU hosted the Whiffenpoofs from Yale University, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. Together with ZJU's Wenqin Chorus, they performed choral pieces for the faculty and students, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to this cherished festival.

A week prior to the festival, students from global leading universities, including Harvard University, Yale University, UC Berkeley, Nanyang Technological University, the University of Tokyo, Yonsei University, and the University of Cambridge, converged at Zhejiang University, one of China's oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions.

They also visited ZJU's Museum of Art and Archaeology, which featured an exhibition on Asian civilizations along the Silk Road. With over 210 artifacts spanning five thousand years, the exhibition provided the students with insights into the rich history and cultural exchange of Asian societies.

These cultural immersions followed their participation in the 2024 International Elite Universities Water Sports Open, held on June 1-2. Co-organized by Zhejiang University, the event featured such competitions as a dragon boat 12-athlete 200m race, and a recreational kayak 200m race.

"The dragon boat carries rich cultural connotations and symbolism," said Du Jiangfeng, president of Zhejiang University, at the opening ceremony of the event. "It represents the Chinese nation's unremitting pursuit of and good wishes for promoting world peace and building a community with a shared future for mankind."

"By using dragon boats as a medium, we aim to promote dialogue among international youth and underscore our shared goals," he added.

MAINLAND CHINA TOPS APAC FOR BUSINESS COMPLEXITY - GBCI REPORT

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- Mainland China has ascended to 11th place as the most complex Asia Pacific (APAC) jurisdiction within this year’s Global Business Complexity Index (GBCI), moving up from 15th position last year.

It is followed by Kazakhstan at 10th place, with Indonesia at 16th and South Korea at 19th. This year’s study found Mainland China’s complexity to be driven by the localisation of e-invoicing in accounting, leading to new requirements around management and digital archiving.

Furthermore, Hong Kong, SAR has also seen a rise in this year’s GBCI rankings, from 74th in the previous two years to 76th, maintaining its position as a key Asian hub and as the least complex APAC jurisdiction within the study.

Despite the intricate nature of the country’s banking methods, Hong Kong’s low and straightforward tax system and its adoption of artificial intelligence and outsourcing strategies to address high salary demands, remains attractive.

“This year, Hong Kong, SAR has maintained its position as the least complex APAC jurisdiction, while countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam have improved their rankings after bringing in significant changes.

“The APAC region continues to serve as one of the primary growth catalysts for both our clients and our own organisation and I hope this report continues to be an invaluable resource for business decision makers and researchers,” said TMF Group Head of APAC, Shagun Kumar in a statement.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s reduced complexity stems from simplifications around market entry, such as lowering capital requirements to incorporate, lowering severance payments, and the introduction of a golden visa scheme.

Within the rest of the APAC region, Malaysia’s implementation of an e-invoicing system is helping to streamline financial processes, reduce costs and enhance transparency. Likewise, Vietnam’s digitalisation efforts such as online tax report filing are also saving businesses on both time and costs.

In the 11th edition of the GBCI launched by TMF Group, a provider of compliance and administrative services, the annual report analyses 79 jurisdictions globally, offering data on key aspects of doing business around the world.
